Head of FRWO met the Deputy FAO in Rome

 Khalil Aghaei, Deputy Minister and Head of FRWO met with Daniel Gustafson, Deputy Director-General for programmes of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at the FAO headquarters in Italy accompanied by Mohammad Hossein Emadi, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran to FAO, and Kamran Poormoghaddam, chair of Forest, Rangeland and Watershed High Council.
 

In this meeting, Khalil Aghaei, explained the plans of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of natural resources and watershed management and highlighted the government's priorities in combating drought effects with emphasis on Integrated Watershed Management Approach.

The Deputy Minister of Agricultural Jihad also explained the issues related to sustainable forest management in our country, emphasizing the need to reduce degradation factors in forest ecosystems, especially those relating to fire, pests and forest diseases, and also highlighted the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to halt logging and exploitation of wood from the Caspian forests as well as the plans for the future.

Referring to the issues related to the ongoing plans to control sand and dust storms, Mr. Aghaei called for more FAO's role in the formulation and implementation of regional programs and declared his readiness to support the process.

FAO Deputy Director-General praised the active role of Iran as a prominent member to FAO and thanked Iran for its efforts in managing natural resources.

He also announced the FAO's readiness for joint cooperation in addressing regional problems and long-term strategic plans.
