FRWO and FAO to Develop Cooperation

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Forest, Rangeland and Watershed Organization met with the FAO team in FRWO Headquarters.

In this Meeting, Khalil Aghaei expressed his satisfaction over FAO mission to I. R. of Iran and said: "FAO has had good cooperation with FRWO from the beginning of its inception, and now this cooperation can be extended to a wider and stronger extent."

Khalil Aghaei added: "We intend to develop our cooperation with FAO via a long-term plan in the fields of forests and rangelands, based on emerging global and regional threats and opportunities."

The head of FRWO also said that Iran is among pioneer countries in combating desertification in the region and the world. However, the climatic changes and drought phenomenon has aggravated wind erosion and this has led to new dust and sand storms sources in Iran and the region. Therefore, another priority area for cooperation is dust and sand storms control.  

Khalil Aghayee also added: "The Supreme Leader and the Islamic Consultative Assembly are lending their support to the issue of dust and sand storms mitigation, and it is particularly on the agenda in the sixth development plan of the country".
