Head of FRWO met with the FAO representative in Iran
Deputy Minister of Jehad-e-Agriculture and Head of FRWO met with Dr. Rao Mata FAO Representative a. i. in Iran and FAO mission headed by Dr. Yuka Maniko Team Leader- Water and Mountains.
Mr. Khalil Aghaee referred to his meetings with FAO officials during COFO24
regarding IWM model in Iran and a joint collaboration with FAO on Integrated Management of
Watershed Methodology, Monitoring and Risk Management with emphasis on flood, fire
and plant pests & diseases mitigation last July.
He added that Iran has experienced experts
in the field of watershed management with valuable expertise and on the base of
our expertise; we have carried out considerable measures in the past decades
and asked for FAO to evaluate and review them based on global experiences.
Mr. Aghaee mentioned that the Government, the Parliament and on the top of that
the Supreme Leader have paid special attention to watershed management measures
and the allocation of $ 200 million from the National Development Fund is a
positive sign for the positive attitude toward watershed management issues.
Mr. Aghaei said that the public participation is vital in the implementation of
natural resources projects, especially in the watershed management, and added
the people and authorities has found out the advantages of the short-term
action on watershed which has led to the proper watershed management,
prevention of flood damage and soil erosion, therefore the implementation of
water management plans is considered the best solution in the drought seasons.
He further explained about the benefits of watershed management and stressed that
watershed management practices should help recharge the underground aquifers,
and supply of water for different land use in the basins for the subsistence of
land users.
