Special Meeting on Zagros Forests Held at FRWO
Khalil Aghaee, Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) said that FAO experts in their visits to Zagros forests have praised Iran's rich indigenous knowledge and FRWO's expertise in natural resources management, and believe that Iran is able to solve the problems in Zagros forests in reliance with his expertise
In the special meeting on Zagros forests challenges last Tuesday Khalil Aghaee added that FRWO with the collaboration of other stakeholders can overcome the pressing issues in the management of Zagros forests.
The head of FRWO also emphasized that the top priority of FRWO is to conserve, rehabilitate and develop the natural resources in the country parallel to harvesting and infiltration of water and humidity into the soil.
He said that zonation of dieback in Zagros oak forests is vital for control of expansion of disease and is being carried out in the region that based on the analysis of the results appropriate remedial plans should be put forward.
Mr. Khalil Aghaee concluded that FRWO consider forests fires, coal production and wood smuggling as the main challenges in Zagros that to be addressed with the participation and support of the people.
