IWM to Be Implemented in 1.5 million Ha in Watershed Basins
Minister of Agriculture Jahad said
that 5.1 million hectares in the country will go under watershed management and
aquifer recharge projects by the end of the year.
According to FRWO’s website, Mahmoud Hojjati said on the sideline of visit to Semnan province that the road map for implementation of IWM plans has been drawn up, and there is no ambiguity among relevant technical branches a good coherence is formed between different departments in FRWO.
Hojjati added that water and soil are the most precious capital that the
Almighty has bestowed to human beings. Therefore, we must reduce damages
incurred to these resources and promote their conservation according to environmental
criteria.
Minister of Agricultural Jahad expressed hope that by the future advancements in
coming years , more efficient technology would be made available in combating
sand and dust storms and added that with the participation of local people and
mobilization of provincial facilities, we would be able resolve SDS phenomena.
At the same time, he also emphasized on application of new methods and practices that may help prevent soil erosion and increase vegetation cover in the country and added the impact of land degradation has been reduced as the result of these new methods.
In the end, he concluded that IWM is a comprehensive approach formulated through thorough study on natural, social and economic aspects in a watershed basin for the comprehensive management of watersheds, soil and water conservation and rehabilitation of vegetation cover.
