Watershed Management plays an equal Role in Wet and Dry Seasons

Khalil Aghaee, Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) on Monday at a meeting with members of the Parliament said that watershed management application is not limited to drought years, but it benefits both wet and dry seasons.  

In a meeting with the chair, vice chair and members of the Planning and Budget Commission of the Parliament, Khalil Aghaee said that in the drought seasons, the art of watershed management techniques is to infiltrate scarce surface water into underground aquifers and thereby prevent water from being wasted. During wet seasons it reduces flood occurrence and soil degradation and thereby improve soil and water conservation.

Khalil Aghaee said that in case of the flood that occurred this October in the northern provinces of Golestan, Mazandaran and Gilan, based on studies carried out by FRWO flood damage was reduced about 70 and 75 percent, compared with other areas.
