The National Watershed Management Programme to be Implemented in 10 million Ha

Khalil Aghaee, Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) attending in a gathering with the media in Rasht, Gilan province on Tuesday announced that according to a parliament resolution, 10 million hectares of basins will go under watershed management operations in the country by the end of the sixth development plan equal to two million hectares per year, which, of course, requires two thousand billion RLs annually.

Aghaee added that since the beginning of this year, watersheds management projects have been implemented in 650 sub-watersheds in 350 cities with 85% of physical progress so far, and it is anticipated that in case of allocation of the remaining budget, 100% of projects will be done by the end of the year.

According to Mr. Aghaee, a bill is tabled to the Parliament asking for 5000 billion RLsfrom general budget to be allocated for the programme.
