Desertification Control in the Core of FRWO Mandate
Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) said that the government has paid due attention to combating desertification over the last two years.
According to FRWO’s website, Aghaei, while visiting natural resource projects in Bafgh city - Yazd province said that for recent two years, some 13 percent of mulch produced in the country is delivered free of charge to FRWO to stabilize sands dunes. This figure will rise to 17 percent next year.
Aghaei also added that in the last two years, by the Supreme Leader’s permission some $ 100 million has been allocated from the National Development Fund for desertification control activities, and in this connection, 20,000 hectares of biological activity and 15,000 hectares of mulching operations were implemented in Khuzestan. He referred to the efforts of FRWO in the field of desertification control and stabilization of sand dunes which is renowned all over the world.
Mr. Aghaei also visited "Bisheh Park" which is under implementation for the rehabilitation of the vegetation cover in the region by Bafg Iron Ore Company as well as the earth dam Project in Shadkam village, which is being built with an investment of 1500 million RLs, and planted a seedling at the Natural Resources Office in Bafgh.
