President Rouhani opens Tehran green belt project
President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated a project that added 1,250 hectares to the green belt of Tehran in north, northwest and east of the city on Sunday.
The project of green belt of Tehran which started in 1986 has covered 41,500 hectares of land so far.
According to the municipal officials, irrigation of parts of the green belt of Tehran is done using purified sewage water of the city.
Civil and environmental observers believe that the green belt, especially once completed, will have a big effect on the capital environment.
He added, “The recent floods indicated that developmental plans and projects, like dams, saved many people’s lives”.
The President also went on to say, “If it were not for Dez, Karkheh, Karoon, and Shahid Abbaspour dams, the conditions in Khuzestan Province would be different today”.
“To judge about developmental projects and plans, we need to have a long-term outlook,” said Rouhani.
He also added, “When we destroy the path of the flood, it will come with destructions; we need to recognise the rights of the nature”.
He added, “Tehran should be surrounded by green belt,” continuing “Issuing permits for construction on riverbeds is to exchange people’s lives for dirty money”.
