Implementation of IWM Projects; an Effective Solution to Reduce Flood Impacts

Tehran's provisional Friday Prayers Leader said that one of the effective ways to reduce the destructive impact of flood is to implement IWM and rain water harvesting operations that help increase soil conservation and water infiltration through plantation and biological measures in upstream to reduce the potential for flashflood in downstream.

According to FRWO’s website, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani also said that the immediate and urgent response should be made available to flood-stricken areas, including provision of emergency aid, reconstruction of homes, compensation of agricultural crops, rehabilitation of agricultural lands and the protection of the affected businesses, and expressed hope that with the government's immediate relief work and the people's support, the conditions of the regions would return to normal as soon as possible.

Although the flood caused some damages, but it saved the country from drought

Senior cleric said the flood inflicted heavy damage and destroyed some of our dear people, but it certainly saved the country from a major drought crisis which was a threat to the country, a crisis whose destructive effects were far more than flood damage.

Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani noted that flood is a natural disaster, but if we have the infrastructure necessary to control runoffs, the damages could be minimized to a great extent. Also, river dredging, the correct prediction of rainfall, the creation of parallel channels for the removal of water from cities can be considered as an attempt to reduce the damage to this natural disaster.
