IWM Prevent Flood Occurrence

Khalil Aghaee, Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) in a letter addressed to governor generals of all provinces wrote that flood risk management can be mitigated through IWM measures.

According to the FRWO’s website, Khalil Aghaee in a letter addressed to governor generals aftermath the recent floods in the country, which has caused heavy damages, pointed out that based on studies carried out by scientific and technological institutes in the world and Iran, proves that risk and vulnerability reduction management through preventive measures, especially IWM activities and plantation in the upstream can reduce flood damages.

Deputy Minister stated in the letter that implementation of IWM plans will turn the threat of flood damages to opportunity for management of drought and shortage of water in the country, which has been proved in recent flood damages.

Head of FRWO, referring to the necessity for development of IWM plans and plantations in forests and rangelands, underlined by the Supreme Leader, expressed his sympathy and full support of FRWO with the people and governor generals, for implementing memoranduns with provinces using all available financial resources, including national and provincial resources.
