IWM Promises the Revival of Qanat System
The Governor General of South Khorasan province in a meeting with Head of FRWO on Wednesday said that construction of more than one thousand of watershed management structures in the province promises a good sign for the revival of Qanat system for farmers and villagers.
According to the website of FRWO, Mohammad Sadeq Motameddiyan said: One of the priorities of the province in water sector is development of IWM approach. In this meeting, the Governor General added that proportionate resources are earmarked for water-related infrastructures in the medium-term program of the province. The Governor General appreciated FRWO for allocation from national budget for IWM projects in the province this year.
Head of FRWO thanked the Governor General of South Khorasan province for his remarks and sharing his views in this regard and the common understanding on IWM concept and said it is a globally agreed notion that can stop flood and drought events. He also referred to memorandum signed last year with Governor Generals and concluded that the cost –sharing mechanism with provinces proved successful in implementation of water management plans. He added that 700 billion Rls was allocated to IWM projects last year that has been doubled with the special attention of the Supreme Leader this year.
