Multi-purpose Forestry Develops in Kurdistan

Bahman Moradnia, the Governor General of Kurdistan province, met and conferred with Mr. Khalil Aghaee, Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) on Saturday about natural resources and forestry in Kurdistan.

According to FRWO’s website, in this meeting, the Governor General of Kurdistan province said that the watershed park initiative is underway in Sanandaj suburb to demonstrate a collection of natural resources interventions such as IWM, afforestation, rangeland rehabilitation, medicinal plant cultivation as well as conservation and fire fighting in a confined area for people with educational and promotional impacts.

He added “Kurdistan province, due to diverse climatic conditions, has a high potential for the development of green space and forestry. This, in turn gives a prominent role to peoples' participation in natural resources projects.

The Governor General pointing out to the commercial and multi-purpose plantation plan in the province said: In the lower areas of Vahdat dam in Sanandaj there are suitable areas with high capacity for commercial and multi-purpose plantation that can be developed through involvement of people.

In this meeting, Khalil Aghaee thanked and expressed his satisfaction over the achievements in the province and said: “The success of the Kurdistan province in the development of vegetation and afforestation definitely will be the success of FRWO.”

Head of FRWO added that the plans developed in the province will be studied by the specialized departments at FRWO and vowed to visit the capacities and achievements of natural resources management in Kurdistan province at the earliest date in future.
