The 15th Session of Zagros Forest Management Working Group Held in FRWO
According to FRWO’s website, the 15th session of Zagros forest management working group, chaired by Khalil Aghaei, Head of FRWO was held at FRWO headquarters on Wednesday with the review of physical progress of natural resources and watershed management plans in rangeland and public participation sectors.
The meeting decided that the performance of eleven Zagros provinces to be evaluated in the areas of range restoration, plantations, IWM, local communities' empowerment and reported to the working group in the next sessions.
The committee emphasized the need for wider participation of local communities in plantation, restoration and enrichment operations in the Zagros and selected provinces of Kurdistan, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari and Isfahan as the top three provinces in terms of public participation.
The committee endorsed the use of IWM as the sole criterion for carrying out any subsequent natural resources projects in the provinces and announced the start of afforestation operation in November. The meeting reiterated the provincial departments to press for wider participation of local communities in plantation, restoration and enrichment operations in the Zagros.
