New Approach in Natural Resources Management
Dr. Khosrow Shahbazi Acting Head of FRWO mentioned that the main task of FRWO is to preserve, restore and develop natural resources and said: “Conservation is the main mandate of FRWO that can never be ignored”.
According to FRWO’s website, Dr. Khosrow Shahbazi in a special meeting with the agenda of FRWO’s executive duties and priorities that was held at FRWO Headquarters with NRWD Director Generals across the country on Thursday said that shortage of facilities and human resources has always existed and still exists in the natural resources sector, but at the current critical situation due to ecosystem fragility we need to compensate for the gaps in natural resources management by taking extraordinary efforts.
Acting Head of FRWO referring to the need for producing statistics and information in the field of natural resources, emphasized that care should taken to provide accurate and real statistics to the public.
Khosrow Shahbazi, referring to the remarks of the Supreme Leader on forests and rangelands preservation on the occasion of the Day of Nature that is ultimate decree for all of us said in his speech the Supreme Leader clearly emphasized the implementation of IWM in order to preserve vegetation cover in the country.
He said that maintaining the status quo in natural resources is a top priority in FRWO and added that valuable forests in the Hrcanian and Zagros regions are being threatened by outbreak of pests and diseases that to be handled using the capacities of research sector.
“We have to conduct research studies on soil microorganisms in forest ecosystems and apply the world-class and advanced technologies to monitor forest resources,” Shahbazi said.
He urged that the Hyrcanian forests have many vital ecosystem functions that to be preserved for present and future generations and due to its unique values is also listed on lists of World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. That is why, the forest alternative plan to be implemented in Hyrcanian forests next year needs to be improved from legal, structural and financial aspects accordingly.
Dr. Shahbazi reiterated the need for closer contacts with the judiciary in provinces and invites them to visit projects' implementation. He also said that research, execution and extension form three pillars for attaining sustainable development and their collaboration can lead to the better management of natural resources.
