FRWO to Launch the Green Movement Initiative
The Green Movement committee meeting was held at FRWO Headquarters on Saturday to review the programs and initiatives so far taken by the line ministries for observing the plantation day on 5th December.
According to FRWO’s website, Dr. Khosrow Shahbazi Acting Head of FRWO called the plantation initiative a robust and innovative action for development of forests and said FRWO is mandated by law to conserve the existing forests and restore degraded forests through planting forest trees. He added that forest degradation is a global phenomenon and the initiative aims to address the challenges in the way of forest development.
Referring to the climate change and its impact on seasons, Shahbazi said that plantation operation should be accordingly shifted to late autumn so that to help the saplings to adapt themselves to the new conditions.
He added that tree planting is an ancient tradition in Iran inherited to us from our ancestors and we have to continue the tradition to guarantee a thriving future for coming generations.
Dr. Shahbazi also referred to the benefits of tree planting and said trees not only produce oxygen, sequester atmospheric carbon and thus purify air quality, but they are source of 6 to 7 million cubic meters of raw materials we need every year to sustain life. Therefore, plantation and wood farming is high on the agenda of FRWO both to address wood production and control of deforestation and forest degradation.
