Sustainable Livelihood Contributes to Natural Resources Management
According to FRWO’s website, the 38th session of coordination committee for IWM implementation chaired by Khosrow Shahbazi, Acting Head of FRWO was held at FRWO Headquarters on Saturday with the agenda of review of technical reports on the progress made in IWM implementation and the role of NGO’s in mobilizing local communities to implement natural resources and IWM plans.
In this meeting, Dr. Shahbazi said: “FRWO has taken significant strides in the watershed management. However, all stakeholders must work together to remove factors contributing to natural recourses degradation and un-sustainability through providing sustainable livelihoods and alternative employments for local communities.”
He reiterated that FRWO is responsible for data production and dissemination in natural resources sector, and the assessment of effectiveness of the measures taken is central to our activities and forecasting future trends.
In another part of his remarks, he called for more attention to the rangeland management and reminded that management plans should be multipurpose emphasizing both reduce impacts of overgrazing on rangelands and strengthen rural economy.
Dr. Shahbazi said that natural resources need both internal coherence from inside and interaction with related organizations in order to manage natural resources.
He reiterated that one of the major challenges of natural resources is the issue of land tenure and coastal land management that can be resolved by completion of cadastre mapping by FRWO. Therefore, cadastre mapping is one of the priorities of FRWO in natural resources management.
