FRWO and IRIB Signed a Memorandum of Understanding to Promote Natural Resources
FRWO and IRIB inked a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting natural resource culture yesterday at IRIB headquarters.
According to FRWO’s website, at the IRIB's Environment Committee Meeting which was held at IRIB headquarters on Monday, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Dr. Khosrow Shahbazi Acting Head of FRWO and Dr. Mohammad Reza Ja’fari, Director General of Channel 2 of IRIB aimed at promoting natural resource culture.
In this meeting, Dr. Shahbazi praised the vital role of IRIB in promoting natural resource culture and giving wide coverage to planting campaign of 14 million trees last December and said that so far millions of trees have been planted with the participation of more than 110,000 people throughout the country.
He reiterated that IRIB, in line with the guidelines of the Supreme Leader as to “the conservation of natural resources must become a public norm”, can make valuable contributions in this direction.
Dr. Shahbazi referred to the allocation of resources from National Development Fund for implementation of IWM projects and said: "Based on our estimations of the recent flash flood in Sistan and Blouchestan province, the implemented IWM projects have significantly reduced the flood damages and impacts in the region".
He also referred to the policy of Ministry of Agriculture in implementing logging ban initiative in the Hyrcanian forests and added that wood farming projects aimed at producing raw materials and reducing pressure on forest restoration are carried out parallel to logging ban initiative in order to compensate for the livelihood of forest dependent communities and the needs of the country to round wood.
In this meeting, Dr. Mohammad Reza Ja’fari, Director General of Channel 2 of IRIB, also welcomed the initative for planting of 14 million trees in December by FRWO to promote social capital in natural resource management and said IRIB would double efforts to make the conservation of natural resources a public norm with due consideration to approaching to natural resource week in March.
Dr. Ja’fari concluded that IRIB is committed to the cause of natural resources and the present memorandum of understanding is a clear sign of our continued commitment.
