The 43rd Session of IWM Coordination Committee Held at FRWO
Acting Head of FRWO held Foehn wind responsible for forest fires in the Caspian regions, especially in Gilan province and urged local FRWO offices to lend their facilities to neighboring provinces for extinguishing the forest fires during the season.
According to FRWO’s website, the 43rd session of coordination committee for IWM implementation chaired by Khosrow Shahbazi, Acting Head of FRWO was held at FRWO Headquarters on Saturday with the agenda of review of technical reports on progress made in IWM implementation and formulation of strategic documents in remaining sectors of natural resources..
In this meeting, he called for accelerated IWM and forestry measures and reiterated that IWM projects have had a significant impact in the provinces.
He referred to the vast expanses of natural resources in the country and emphasized the need for involvement of private sector in the form of corporate social responsibility in natural resource management, especially afforestation projects.
Dr. Shahbazi pointed out to the vital role of research in effective management of natural resources and called for continued policy-review meetings with the Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Research Institute (SCWMRI) and the Research Institute of Forests and Rangelands (RIFI) of the Agricultural Research and Education Organization (AREO).
He reminded the close collaboration of Research Institute of Forests and Rangelands (RIFI) in the field of wood farming that yielded positive results in the past and reiterated the continuation of such cooperation in the fields of development of medicinal plants and the strategic plan for range management.
Acting Head of FRWO considered the formulation of the strategic plan for range management as a priority for FRWO and added: “In order to save the country's rangelands we need to look for alternative livelihood for people active in this sector and at the moment the best solution is to develop medicinal plants that can benefit the villagers and reduce the pressure on rangelands for fodder production.”
Acting Head of FRWO highlighted the need for authenticity of statistics used in the cadastre maps of natural resources and emphasized: “the statistics and information must be in line with the statistics of the Organization for Registration of Real Estate and Properties".
