According to FRWO’s website, Dr. Khosrow Shahbazi Acting Head of FRWO who attended the annual FRWO gathering at the Headquarters concurrent with the 41st Anniversary of victory of the Revolution, called for unity and enhanced participation of all for the management of vast expanses of natural resources.

Dr. Shahbazi said that the General Tree-Planting Movement for Greener Homeland initiated on 5th December 2019 this year, will continue up to the end of Iranian calendar in March. He noted that the conceptual framework of the campaign was built on studies carried out by academic centers on precipitation patterns in autumn based on climatic conditions in Iran. Given the good precipitation this year, FRWO initiated the plan as of5th December 2019 and so far some 11 million seedlings have been planted with the participation of different groups of people across the country.

He said that all planted sites are documented by satellite imagery using UTM method that can be monitored and evaluated. 

Dr. Shahbazi named Ilam and Qom provinces as pioneers at national level that have exceeded their plantation commitments, and added that Ilam province, with 8,000 hectares of plantation commitments, has planted about 10,000 hectares and ranks first among the provinces.

Acting Head of FRWO said that 75% of the IWM allocations for current year is made that some 8000 billion RLs have been released to the provinces for IWM activities.

He also announced that about 70% of the allocations for control of desertification will be released in the next two weeks.

He highlighted the various efforts made by FRWO to mobilize extra 150 million Euros for IWM and 100 million Euros for desertification control projects from the National Development Fund this year to provide a further momentum to natural resource management in the country.

In the end, Dr. Shahbazi referred to other priority areas of work of FRWO including medicinal herbs and wood farming development that can contribute to the economy of the country.
