National Arbor Day Observed in Telo Forest Near Tehran
Arbor Day and opening ceremony of Natural Resources Week was held in Telo forest area, located in northeast of Tehran, that is a part of the south Alborz slope afforestation project.
It is notable that Arbor Day known as "National Tree Planting Day" in Iran is the fifteenth day of month of Esfand, which usually corresponds with March 5. This day is also the first day of the "Natural Resources Week (05-11 March)" in Iran.
According to FRWO's website, in this ceremony, Dr. Khosrow Shahbazi, Acting Head of FRWO who opened the ceremony referred to the importance of tree and tree planting and said: "Tree planting is of great importance in Islamic texts and rich Iranian culture."
Acting Head of FRWO added that the tree planting campaign is considered a vital global strategy to save the planet and Iran has taken effective steps in this regard, in parallel to other pioneer countries.
He stated: "Tree planting campaign started on December 5th, 2019 to make maximum use of precipitation in fall and so far more than 13 million trees are planted nationwide."
Dr. Shahbazi also praised the progress of the south Alborz slope afforestation project and noted: "As Tehran metropolitan is facing with air pollution, FRWO started the implementation of a green belt with the cooperation of Tehran Parks and Green Spaces Organization (TPGSO) under Municipality of Tehran.
Acting Head of FRWO added that some 1290 hectares of the south Alborz slope afforestation project is launched this year in the natural resources week.
