Distribution of 9 Million Tree Saplings in Natural Resources Week

Director of Dry land Forestry Center of FRWO announced that 9 million tree saplings have been distributed throughout the country in Natural Resources Week.

According to FRWO's website, Dr. Qeibi who was attending a live TV Show in channel 6 of IRIB on Monday said that FRWO has started the tree planting campaign in fall this year aimed at planting of at least 14 million tree saplings in the country and so far 13 million tree saplings have been planted with the participation of different groups of people in the country before the Natural Resources Week, and it is anticipated that this figure would exceeded 15 million saplings by the end of the Natural Resources Week in mid March which is a new record.

He added that more than16 million tree saplings have been produced in FRWO's and private nurseries for plantation based on the regional and climatic conditions of the country this year.

The report added that climate change is emerging in an alarming rate in the region and it is necessary to address climate change especially with new pattern of precipitations i in our short, medium and long term programs in the country for plantation. Therefore the new annual tree- planting initiative started in fall this year as a response to this urgency based on recommendations of science and research bodies.

The report added that Iran is committed to reduce greenhouse gas emission by 4 percent and increase forest per capita from 1,700 square meters to 2,500 square meters, to address climate change. It is noteworthy that Iran is also considered to be amongst the Low Forest Cover Countries (LFCC) with less than 10 percent of its land area is covered by forest.
