IWM Should be Given a Top Priority in Flood-Stricken Areas
Acting Head of FRWO in the session of coordination committee for IWM implementation emphasized that the areas that have been affected by floods since the beginning of this year should be given priority for IWM implementation.
According to FRWO's website, the first session of coordination committee for IWM implementation in the new Iranian year chaired by Dr. Masoud Mansour, was held at FRWO Headquarters on Saturday with the agenda of allocation of budget earmarked from NDF for IWM projects.
In this meeting, Dr. Mansour underlined the need for an integrated budget allocation mechanism for IWM projects
He noted that integration is necessary for the planning and management of IWM projects and emphasized: "All the measures that can lead to crisis reduction and sustainability in a watershed should be taken into consideration in the formulation phase."
He considered IWM approach fundamental to watershed and aquifer management in protecting base resources, especially soil and water resources, and called for the identification of critical and flood-prone areas and formulation of necessary plans to reduce flood damage and prevent soil erosion and sedimentation.
