Acting Head of FRWO announced the allocation of a special budget of 2600 billion RLs for preventive measures in the critical watersheds in 12 flood-stricken provinces damaged by recent floods.

According to FRWO's website, Dr. Mansour emphasized the effectiveness of IWM projects in reducing flash floods, controlling soil erosion and recharging aquifers, and stated: "the main goal of FRWO is to control flash floods and reduce any future damages in the critical and high-risk areas of flood-prone provinces."

Dr. Mansour announced that the provinces including Sistan & Baluchestan, Lorestan, Golestan, Fars, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Hormozgan, Ilam, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh & Boyer-Ahmad, Gilan and South Khorasan will be funded based on the approval of the National IWM Committee and urged the provincial Departments to start the operational phase in coordination with FRWO's Headquarters in the flood-prone areas and critical watersheds in order to reduce flood damage and prevent soil erosion and sedimentation.

Based on estimations, the implementation of aquifer recharge and flood spreading projects in downstream plains may not only reduce of flood damages in critical watersheds, but also can store 1,000 cubic meters of rainwater per ha in the aquifers annually.
