FRWO's Directive to Prevent Wildland fires
Acting Head of FRWO in a directive to all Natural Resources and Watershed Management Departments (NRWDs) in provinces ordered to take preventive measures, considering the rise of temperature in springs, to control wildland fires in forests and rangelands.
According to FRWO's website, Dr. Masoud Mansour urged the NRWDs to set up Wildfire Prevention Committees in coordination with the Governorate-Generals, and National Disaster Management Organizations (NDMO) in the provinces to assist the Wildfire Prevention Units in NRWDs.
He said that "All information including identification of fire hotspots, information about roads and water reservoirs in the region are important in fighting wildland fires", and urged to prepare Fire Hazard maps for provinces, taking into account effective parameters for fire management.
The directive urged that all necessary measures such as repairing and improving fire breaks, carrying out health operation, silviculture and slash and burn practices in the forested areas should be taken immediately to reduce the fire risk.
It also called for targeted radio and TV programmes for awareness raising of the general public.
Dr. Mansour in this directive considered the role of Imams of congregational prayers, clerics, elders and trustees unique in managing wildfire emergencies in natural resources, and called for more advocacy and training programs for farmers, ranchers, and managers of natural resource management projects.
The directive also urged that the installation of educational signs and graffiti in high-traffic areas, and said that the installation of promotional and educational announcements, posting the 1504 Forest and Rangeland Emergency Code parallel to holding training maneuvers, identifying points of strengths and weaknesses, prevention and extinguishing pack etc. can be effective in preventing forest and rangeland fires
