Desertification and Drought World Day Observed at FRWO’s Headquarters

WDCD 2020 ceremony was observed in Iran at FRWO’s Headquarters on Tuesday 16^th June with the theme of “Food. Feed. Fibre: Sustainable Production and Consumption”, with focus on changing public attitudes to the leading driver of desertification and land degradation: humanity’s relentless production and consumption, with presence of representatives of international organisations, civil society groups, science and technology institutes and media, which was opened by Dr. Massoud Mansour , Deputy Minister and Head of FRWO.

In this ceremony, statement of UNCCD Executive Secretary on the occasion of WDCD 2020 was delivered by Dr. Khosrow Shahbazi Deputy Head of FRWO- Watershed Management, Rangeland and Desert Affairs.

In another part of the ceremony, statement of Dr. Gerold Bodeker, FAO representative in I.R. of Iran was delivered and representative of Science and Technology Institutes expressed their views on desertification and drought control.

The ceremony concluded with launching some 448 desertification control projects in 22 desert provinces and National Documentation system on SLM Best practices by Dr. Kazem Khavazi Minister of Jahad -e- Agriculture.
