IWM Projects to Revive Qanats in South Khorasan

Minister of Agriculture Jahad who was visiting South Khorasan province, in a meeting with representatives of NGO’s and elites in the field of agriculture and natural resources, emphasized the development of IWM and aquifer recharge projects to revive Qanats in South Khorasan province.

According to FRWO’s website, Dr Kazem Khavazi reiterated that development in South Khorasan province should be water-based. He noted that watershed management and aquifer recharge projects should be developed to revive Qanats in South Khorasan province.

In this meeting, Dr. Masoud Mansour, Deputy Minister and Head of FRWO referred that watershed management and aquifer recharge projects help the underground aquifers and flood prevention as well control of soil erosion and said that during the last crop year, implemented IWM projects have stored and infiltrated about 77 million cubic meters of water into watersheds in South Khorasan province.
