High Soil Council Formation Plan Presented to the Government
The sixth session of the Soil Steering Committee (SSC) with the presence of Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed management Organization (FRWO), Deputy Minister in Water and Soil Affairs (WSA), Deputy Minister and Head of Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), and Head of Land Affairs Organization of Iran (LAoI) was held at WSA Headquarters on Monday to formulate a strategic plan for soil management.
The sixth session of the Soil Steering Committee (SSC) with the presence of Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed management Organization (FRWO), Deputy Minister in Water and Soil Affairs (WSA), Deputy Minister and Head of Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), and Head of Land Affairs Organization of Iran (LAoI) was held at WSA Headquarters on Monday to formulate a strategic plan for soil management.
According to FRWO's website, quoted from MAJ Information Center (MAJIC), in this meeting, Dr. Masoud Mansour, Deputy Minister and Head of FRWO stressed that no permission has been issued for the export of forest and rangeland soil.
In this meeting, Ali-Morad Akabari, Deputy Minister in Water and Soil Affairs (WSA) stated that the formation plan of a High Soil Council was presented to the Government. He said that two options were presented: “High Water and Soil Council” and “High Soil Council”.
It is notable that in a letter to the President, the Minister of Agriculture Jahad requested for the formation of a High Soil Council chaired by the President, Dr. Hasan Rouhani. Kazem Khavazi, Minister of Agriculture Jahad, in the letter to President Hassan Rouhani, noted that soil is a national asset, and the main basis for agriculture and the environment and stressed that as mentioned in the supreme leader's speech, in regard to the soil, as a “more important issue than water”, and you have called it as “the first very large capital”. He emphesized the need to further enhance coordination and cooperation among the relevant organizations in developing and implementing a sustainable land use strategies, and concluded: "A high soil council should be established to be responsible for policy-making, coordination and oversight."
