FRWO's Mission to Preserve Water and Soil Resources
Head of FRWO said that FRWO's great mission is preservation, revival, development and exploitation of natural resources aimed at preserving water and soil resources and vegetation cover in order to provide a thriving work environment.
According to FRWO’s website, World Soil Day 2020 video conference ceremony was observed in Iran at the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad Headquarters on Tuesday 6th December with the theme of “Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity”, chaired by Dr. Kazem Khavazi, Minister of Agriculture Jahad, with the presence of Dr. Masoude Mansour, Deputy Minister and Head of FRWO.
In this video conference ceremony, Mansour stated: "Water, soil and vegetation cover are essential resources and the vital parts of the natural environment in the world that their living depends on each other."
Head of FRWO noted that more than 30 million hectares of national lands are exposed to destruction. He said that natural resources comprise 14 million hectares of the forested areas, 80 million hectares of the rangelands and 2 million ha of the wooded lands and reiterated that considering the fact that natural resources comprise about 80 percent of our national territory, FRWO has heavy responsibility of natural resources management throughout the country.
Deputy Minister said that at the moment, about 125 million hectares of the national territory are prone to water erosion and 30 million hectares are prone to wind erosion of which some parts are hot spots and high risk areas. In this regard, for the reduction of erosion in the above-mentioned areas, 30 million hectares and 2 million hectares of the lands have undergone IWM projects, respectively. He emphasized that implementation of IWM projects had various positive functions and prevents flood damage and soil erosion.
