Plantation of Seedlings in 232,000 Ha
In a ceremony in Alborz province, tree- planting initiative with plantation of seedlings in 232,000 hectares of natural resources lands of the country aimed at expansion of vegetation cover started with the presence of Dr. Masoud Mansour, Deputy Minister and Head of FRWO, and Aziz-Allah Shahbazi, Governor General of Alborz province and participation of people and media in Alborz on 5th December 2020 coinciding with World Soil Day (WSD).
According to FRWO’s website, based on this initiative, it is scheduled to plant seedlings in 232,000 hectares of natural resources lands of the country aimed at expansion of vegetation cover. The initiative includes development and restoration of forests in 47,000 hectares, development of timber farming in 30,000 hectares, forest development and plantation operations with the participation of the people in 30,000 hectares, desertification control in 35,000 hectares and reclamation of degraded rangeland in 90,000 hectares.
Mansour referring to the vital importance of water, soil and vegetation cover stated: "Water, soil and vegetation cover are essential resources and the vital parts of the natural environment in the world. These elements provide living space for humans, as well as essential ecosystem services which are important for water regulation and supply, climate regulation and biodiversity conservation."
He reiterated that considering the fact that natural resources comprise about 80 percent of our national territory, FRWO has heavy responsibility of natural resources management throughout the country.
