Implementation of IWM Projects in 30 Million Ha
Head of FRWO who visited Kerman province on Wednesday attended a meeting with Governor General of Kerman and said that FRWO has implemented IWM projects in 30 million hectares, but due to water erosion in 125 million hectares throughout the country, it doesn't meet all needs and the current situation is not the desired situation.
According to FRWO’s website, Dr. Massoud Mansour, Deputy Minister and Head of FRWO in the meeting with Ali Zeinivand, Governor General of Kerman noted that there are nearly 450 cities and more than 8,600 villages with the highest flood risk in our country, and in the last 20 years, nearly 7,300 flash flooding affected many Iran parts.
He emphasized the effectiveness of IWM projects in reducing flash floods, and reiterated: "IWM has various positive functions. It controls soil erosion and helps the flood prevention, and reduces any future damages in the critical and high-risk areas of flood-prone provinces."
Mansour stated that FRWO is committed to the pledge it has taken with regard to timber farming operation in 30,000 hectares this year of which 700 hectares is targeted to be implemented in Kerman province.
