The text of the message is as follows:
In the Name of God
The 2021 Desertification and Drought Day which held on 17 June annually, is an opportunity to raise public awareness of the challenges and consequences of desertification and to describe the actions and efforts taken to combat this phenomenon. To prevent land degradation in arid, semi-arid and semi-humid areas – which is better known as desertification - FRWO needs an impressive collective effort aimed at participation of people and coordination of related institutions.
Desertification, land degradation and drought are challenges of a global dimension and continue to pose serious challenges to the sustainable development of all countries and peaceful coexistence between human and nature. Disrupting this balance would mean the beginning of land degradation and a reduction in soil bioavailability and vital ecosystems decline.
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is the highest relevant body, according to international law and observes every year 17 June worldwide as Desertification and Drought Day. This year’s slogan for the day “Restoration, Land, Recovery, We build back better with healthy land has considered post-COVID-19 era. Land rehabilitation has significant capacities for economic production and reconstruction. Planning and investment in this sector will facilitate the economic recovery of countries.
In this line, FRWO has developed the National Drought Management Strategy with active participation of all stakeholders in a participatory process, and we are trying to pave the way to implement it and we hope that the country will be prepared for the drought by its implementation.
Masoud Mansour,
Deputy Minister and Head of the Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO)
